Thai culture is full of everyday luck. Two things travelers notice quickly are lucky colors by birthday and a love of certain numbers.
Lucky colors by day of the week
Each day has a color, based on the Hindu deity that governs it. Many Thais wear the day's color for good fortune:
- Sunday — red
- Monday — yellow / cream
- Tuesday — pink
- Wednesday — green (day) / grey (night)
- Thursday — orange
- Friday — blue
- Saturday — purple
Check the Daily Horoscope on Mujital to see today's lucky color.
Lucky numbers
- 9 (kao) sounds like the word for "progress," so it's the most auspicious number — hence "nine-temple" merit tours.
- 8 is favored for prosperity (a Chinese influence).
- Some avoid certain combinations; beliefs vary by person.
For visitors
You don't have to follow any of this — but wearing the day's color, or planning a nine-temple day, is a fun and easy way to travel like a local. Lottery and number beliefs are for entertainment; please don't gamble irresponsibly.
Beliefs are personal — please use your own discretion.
